The St. Louis Metropolitan Area Airport Authority was cerated by General Assembly in 1970 to plan, acquire land for, construct, maintain and operate one or more airports in St. Louis metropolitan area. Illinois counties included Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe and St. Clair. Authority was initially funded from regular state appropriations to conduct feasibility, engineering and marketing studies.
